The
neighbourhood Berlin Friedrichshain, East Berlin
Friedrichshain stretches eastwards from Mitte along the Stalinist spine of Karl-Marx-Allee. It encompasses the post-industrial area by the river and Friedrichshain is the inner-Berlin district that most clearly reminds one of the old East. Karl-Marx-Allee is a grand avenue built in Soviet style. Most of the district's life is centred around Simon-Dach-Str.
More
then 120 restaurants, bars, pubs and cafés are especially near Simon-Dach-Straße
and around Boxhagener Platz. Many alternative shops, from a tattoo-shop
to a 2nd hand or a 3rd world-shop... there are a lot of things to discover
even on a tight budget.
To
the famous Simon-Dach-Str. from the guest house at Traveplatz you walk only 10
min on foot or take the tram (4 stops). The tram stops right in front
of your door. To the flea market on Boxhagener Platz it is only 600 m or 3 stops
by tram.
Müggelstrasse,
located between Scharnweberstrasse and Traveplatz is a very quiet side street
although it is also the terminal for one of the local trams. Three houses away,
one can relax at Traveplatz which has been converted into a park area.
Close by, one can find the trendy bars typical of the Friedrichshain area, small
grocery shops, junk shops, goth and punk shops. Hot fresh bread is available from
the bakery around the corner from 6 am. during the week, 7am on Saturdays
and 8am on Sundays. | |
Take the
underground around the corner to reach other popular sights including the television
tower, Berlin Cathedral, the Gendarmenmarkt, the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag
Building, all of which can be reached on foot from Alexanderplatz.

without any costs is possible but sometimes you have to look for a space. If you
would like to have your car in a parking garage, there is one near by in the shopping
center called Ringcenter.
